About Nita

Hello and welcome to my blog. I live in Western Arkansas in the town of Mena. I love the mountains here with all the forests. Two of my four grandchildren live with me. I have guardianship of them. Ryleigh is 14 and Matthew is 10. Ryleigh goes to public school and Matthew is homeschooled by choice. Part of Matthew’s schooling will be learning about homesteading. We don’t live the country yet but our house in town is for sale and we are looking for a place in the country where we can have a small homestead farm.

My other two grandchildren live in the north Dallas metro area. Haley is in college and wants to be a vet. Gabby is in Middle school and loves soccer and volleyball. Their mom, my oldest daughter Amy, is a RN for a hospice company. Dad John is an construction manager for a custom home builder.

Some of the projects we will be sharing are: arts and crafts, caring for plants and a garden, trying new recipes and cooking our favorite ones, pet care for our 2 cats and dog and preparing to get chickens when we move. We hope to have other livestock and I will be researching and writing about that too.

I have been an engineer and technical writer in the telecommunications industry with 8 years engineering experience and over 20 year in technical writing. I teach classes online through Outschool and have 20 years experience as a sub teacher in the public school system in Texas and Arkansas. I sometimes offer coupons for my Outschool classes and put them in my sidebar.

When I’m not helping Matthew with schoolwork or working on projects I like to coach his soccer team, cheer him on in basketball, and go to plays that Ryleigh is in at school. I’m also a member of Polk County and County 76 Arkansas Master Gardeners and Polk County Extension Homemakers. We are looking for an 4H group and homeschool group to join too.
